A MODERN GLASS BALCONY SOLUTION

This week we have designed an elegant and stylish solution for a modern glass balcony utilising our frameless glass balustrade system and composite decking structure.

The customer required a glass balcony solution for their property in Brighton. As well as a railing system they were also looking for a flooring solution, with the desire to create a faultless indoor-outdoor paving level. The architect on the project was introduced to our complete solution at the EcoBuild Exhibition in March this year, where he was able to see the Qwickbuild decking structure first hand together with our frameless glass balustrade systems on display.

Following the exhibition we provided the architect with a sample of the Qwickbuild structure with a selection of composite decking boards to present to the client, together with detailed proposal documents and visualisations of the finished project, allowing both the architect and the end user to understand exactly how the systems work together and how they would be fitted. We always find it is important for the end user to understand how the project will come together, providing visuals of the fitting process and the hidden parts that won’t be on show once the job is completed. We find this provides the client with peace of mind and creates a trust partnership with us as we demonstrate that we understand the ongoing project and we are confident in the solution we are advising.

Utilising our side mounted aluminium glazing channel, we will be able to secure the glass balustrade to the concrete beam in the balcony construction. The glazing channel will also fit seamlessly against the Qwickbuild decking frame which will be secured against the property walls, creating a safe platform for the balcony flooring. The composite decking boards will easily slide into place on the aluminium frame and the glass panels will then be installed within the glazing channel, completed with a stainless steel slotted handrail.

In total there will be six square metres of Qwickbuild and Resortdeck boards used for the flooring and seven metres of glass balustrades around three sides of the balcony. The glass will only need to be specified at 15mm toughened because of the inclusion of the handrail.
All the required parts will be pre-fabricated in our workshop so that once we reach site we just need to slot the parts into place and secure the glass, cutting down both time and costs of installation for the customer. This process also allows us to make sure everything has been manufactured to the correct dimensions and quality standards, with no inconvenient surprises during the installation.
