Lake District Stunning Views

Set in Rosthwaite in the heart of the most beautiful Borrowdale Valley in the North Western Lake District. Clare’s Cottage boasts the most stunning views of the fells such as High Spy, Castle Crag, and Kings How. Groundworks started in June 2017 for the new cottage. Designed by William Sutherland of WS Architecture Ltd in Ambleside, the new cottage used local materials to help the property blend into the Lake District surroundings.

The building design incorporates a balcony allowing the owners to enjoy the stunning views of the Fells and their back garden. A frameless solution is the preferred design, meaning the stunning views will be enjoyed uninterrupted. The architect William, provided some excellent CAD visuals of the project that has helped us design the best balustrade solution for the project. The Side Mount Mini Post Balustrade is the chosen solution to support the frameless glazed solution. The balustrade fittings are secured to structural steelwork incorporated in the roof structure. This keeps all the fittings away from the planned waterproof GRP membrane used on the balcony surface.

High Grade Choice of Materials

The Cumbrian weather in such exposed area, can be extreme at times, with the highest rainfall levels in the UK. This means a solution that incorporates stainless steel has to stand up to these extreme conditions. As a result using Duplex (2205) Stainless Steel Mini Post fittings, we have achieved the required strengths and resistance to corrosion needed. Duplex stainless steel has been developed for use as components on oil rigs, due to its extreme corrosive resistance and very high levels of tensile strength.

Careful consideration with the design of the build has been made to incorporate the chosen balustrade. Consequently this has been born out with the design of the steelwork created for the. The steelwork is currently being installed and we hope to have the goods ready for install by early Spring. We look forward to sharing pictures during the install and the completed project later this spring.
