Mini Post Balustrade Case Study for a new build house in rural Lancashire

Our Mini-Post frameless glass balustrade was recently installed to complete the balcony on this beautifully designed new build in rural Lancashire.  The site was previously a brick bungalow, which due to a growing family, our client wanted to extend on.  However, once the necessary surveys and inspections were complete, and structural problems highlighted, the architect advised our client that she may as well “knock it all down and build from scratch”.  This is where our clients journey began with the following six months proving to be physically and emotionally trying, yet rewarding period.  She watched the demolition of her home from the static caravan she bought to live in for the duration of the project.  Taking this advice from her architect, she says living on site was the best decision she had made.  From start to finish, so many options were presented which required urgent decision making between all parties involved.  To be present when these decisions were being made was of critical importance to our client and she comments that it’s the best advice she can give for anyone planning their own new build.

Mini-Post Frameless Balustrade for a Balcony

The balcony overlooks a large garden and opens up from a spacious lounge area.  This will be perfect for entertaining family and friends, especially in the Spring and Summer months.  With a length of 7.5 metres and a width of 1.5 metres, there is plenty of space to include some outdoor dining furniture and seating.  The Mini-Post glass balustrade has enabled unobstructed views for everyone to enjoy due to its frameless design.  It consists of 13.5mm toughened glass, a stylish stainless steel slotted handrail, and 2205 grade stainless steel side mounted glass clamps.  Whilst this has created an aesthetically beautiful design, the balustrade also meets all building regulations, offers superior corrosion resistance, and is CE marked which reassures our customer that she has bought a frameless glass balustrade that is designed to last.  We offer varying thicknesses of glass from 12mm to 17.5mm to meet requirements that depend on where a balustrade is to be installed.

Mini-Post Balustrade with Decking on Balcony

Our RESORTDECK composite decking was installed over a waterproof membrane using our QWICKBUILD aluminium subframe structure. This was prefabricated at our warehouse prior to being delivered to site in order to reduce installation time.  Quick and easy installation was also enabled by the use of stainless steel clips which fasten the board to the frame without the need for any nails or screws.  This has provided our customer with not only a neater finish, but a safer one too.

Available in four colours, RESORTDECK is our most advanced composite decking system yet, offering incomparable durability and safety due to its UV, moisture, scratch, stain, and slip resistance.  Furthermore, our customer can be rest-assured that her new deck won’t rot, splinter or crack, and it won’t loose its natural aesthetic look over the coming years.  This, along with the little required maintenance of both the decking and the mini-post frameless glass balustrade has made both solutions a real winner for our customer and she is delighted!

“We are extremely happy with the balcony, both design and build quality. The people working on site were at all times courteous and left everything neat and tidy after they had finished. Thanks again for designing and constructing a balcony which certainly adds to the overall ‘wow’ factor of the house”!
